TestGen®

TestGen® is a test-generating application offered by Pearson Education/Prentice Hall to help faculty create assessment questions and tests. It is often provided to faculty on a CD in conjunction with the instructor's version of a textbook, along with test banks related to each chapter in the book. For more information on TestGen, visit this Pearson Education website.

The most current version of TestGen (7.4.1) enables faculty to export to Blackboard Vista.

Exporting TestGen Tests to QTI Format for use with Vista

After you have created and saved your test in TestGen, choose QTI WebCT CE 6, WebCT Vista as the export platform.  (Even though the QTI option does not specifically reference "Blackboard Vista", it is the export option required.) A zip file will be generated. This is the file that is uploaded into Vista, using the instructions below. (Be careful to choose the export platform that includes "QTI"--it's easy to select the wrong options. If you try the other export options that refer to Blackboard, the import will not work with our version of Blackboard Vista.)

Import TestGen Zip File into Blackboard Vista

  1. Log into your Blackboard course, click the Build tab.
  2. Select Manage Course from the Designer Tools area.
  3. Select Import.
  4. Select My Computer from the Get Files dialog box, and locate and select the .zip file you exported from the TestGen. (Either double-click on the File name, or click it to select it and then click the Open button.)
  5. You will be given a Content Import Progress screen that will let you know when the file is imported.
  6. Click the Return button.

Your imported test will be in the Assessments area from the Build tab.
