Answering Questions About BANNER Course Records
Questions Related to Old-to-New Course Conversions
A data file called the "
CCN Crosswalk" can be used to answer questions about
old-to-new course conversions. The file includes records of all
old courses that were converted in Banner using an automated
conversion script. The
crosswalk file does NOT include courses that have been manually
added into Banner since the automated, scripted conversions were
completed, and it does NOT include courses in as-yet-unconverted
old subjects. Therefore, the usefulness of this file is limited
to answering historical questions such as, “What new course was
our college’s old Accounting 202 course converted to?”
or “What old course was our new BIO* 110 converted from?”.
Questions About Current Banner Catalog Course Records
When you need information about courses and titles currently
included in the BANNER catalog in a new, common subject, you
must go directly to Banner; do not use the CCN Crosswalk
data file. As discussed above, that file only includes records
for courses that were converted via script from an old to a new
(common) course.
To find current Banner catalog
information for your college:
Print a catalog report directly from Banner, such as the
SWRXC01 Active Catalog Courses, which lists all active
courses at a specific college during a given term.
To find current Banner catalog
information systemwide:
IF YOU ARE ON A PC INSIDE THE COMMNET NETWORK:
Use the new
SWICRSE Cross-College Course Inquiry Form.
Once an entire discipline's courses have been converted from the
old to the new subject designator, colleges that wish to add a new
course in that discipline can use the SWICRSE form to search the
BANNER's catalog to see if they find any courses that may
have 80% consonance of content. Such courses should carry the same
subject designator and number. If there is no course in the Banner
catalog that meets the 80% rule for the proposed course, a new
course number is needed (see below).
What If I Need a New Course Number Assigned?

IF YOU ARE ON A PC INSIDE THE COMMNET NETWORK: When you have a brand-new course that needs a new course
number, consult the
Common Course Number Inventory Word documents. Each
of the disciplines that have been converted to the new CCN system
has its own course inventory document. Once you have consulted
the inventory and decided where you feel your new course belongs
in the existing hierarchy for that discipline, inform your
academic dean, who will then request the course activation from
the System Office.
