The Connecticut Community Colleges and the SunGard Higher Education Banner Financial Aid System.
The Connecticut system of community colleges is composed of 12 colleges and 18
campuses under the governance of a Board of Trustees. System Office staff under the direction of Chancellor Marc Herzog
provide administrative support to the Board of Trustees.
The Connecticut Community Colleges use administrative software developed by
SunGard Higher Education (www.sungardhe.com), the leader in
education market solutions, in the administration of its student financial aid programs. Both SunGard Higher Education
administrative solutions and web-enabled products are utilized to provide technology and services to staff and students.
The SunGard Higher Education Banner Financial Aid System software is unique in that all
12 colleges share one Oracle database, yet college data is segregated for
administrative purposes. In effect, each college has its own financial aid system designed
to meet its local needs. This development was essential since each college is recognized as
a separate institution, with its own Institutional Eligibility and Program
Participation Agreement, by the U.S. Department of Education. We have named this development effort
Multiple Institution Functionality (MIF).
Our unique environment in the Connecticut Community Colleges has resulted in a
robust administratively complex information systems environment, that is
ever changing to meet the demands placed upon the staff in the financial
aid offices at our colleges.
