Health Career Academy

Health Career Pathways Certificate Program

Investigations in Health Careers is designed to assist students in meeting the expectations of a health care curriculum and career. The students will become familiar with the rigors of higher education and the specific skills needed to maximize their opportunity for academic and clinical success. 

Objectives

The general objectives are to provide students with an overview of the wide range of health care career paths.  Coursework will include a segment on study skills, library and research component, and a discussion of a wide range of health care professions. 

Class will include clinical classroom observation, job shadowing, research paper, and ePortfolio.

Course modules include:

  • Careers in Health Care
  • Success Strategies
  • Research and Library
  • Medical-Legal Responsibilities, Ethics, and Confidentiality
  • Medical Terminology / The Body Systems
  • Mathematics in Health Care
  • Precautions and Safety
  • Interpersonal and Professional Communication Skills
  • Medical Record Documentation Management
  • Cultural Diversity Issues in Health Care - Age, Gender, Cultural, Socio-Economic, Religious and Sexual Orientation
  • Contemporary Issues in Health Care
