Faculty & Staff Center for Professional Development

The Center for Professional Development provides accessible, self-paced instructional modules and learning resources especially geared for part-time, non-credit program faculty and staff.

Through funding provided by the USDOL Bridges to Health Careers Initiative, Naugatuck Valley Community College is developing an online Instructor Proficiency Certificate (IPC) program to address 21st century quality and skill standards for instructors/trainers. The required courses are designed to provide basic teaching theory and techniques, while the elective courses provide both new and veteran faculty an opportunity to grow professionally and enhance their teaching skills. Instructors who complete the four required and two elective courses will be awarded the CCC Instructor Proficiency Certificate in recognition of their accomplishments.

With information and training on current educational trends and teaching methodologies, the IPC program is particularly relevant for instructors who are recognized as content experts in their field but who may have limited teaching experience. It is also useful for instructors whose primary teaching experience has been with young people, and who are seeking to adapt their teaching methods to serve the diverse adult populations of community college continuing education programs.
