Personal Computer Configuration
(Revision Date: February 27, 2009)

The following has been adopted as the minimum configuration standard for personal computers when making new purchases. With the constant changes in the industry, it is expected that this configuration will be updated on an annual or as needed basis.

Windows XP Professional
Processor – 2.4 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core or equivalent
Memory – 2 GB w/ capacity to go to 8 GB
Hard Drive – 160 GB
NIC – 10/100/1000 mbps Ethernet
CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive - Optional
Floppy Drive – 3.5 inch, 1.44 MB (optional)
Monitor – 17” Flat Panel
USB 2.0 – At least two USB ports, 4 recommended
Graphics – 256 MB dedicated memory & DirectX 9 capable
Sound – Sound Capable
Mouse – USB 2-button optical with scroll
Keyboard
Energy Star Rating

The following are additional purchasing guidelines for personal computers:

PC Configuration for High End Computing Guideline
 
Processor – 2.8 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core or equivalent
Memory – 4 GB (expandable to 8 GB)
Hard Drive – 250 GB
NIC – 10/100/1000 mbps Ethernet
CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive
Graphics – 256 MB DirectX 10 capable or higher
Monitor – 19” Flat Panel LCD
USB 2.0 – Four or more USB ports
Firewire –  Two or more ports
Sound – 7.1 channel sound card
Mouse – USB 2-button optical with scroll
Keyboard
Energy Star Rating
Options: Media card reader w/ Bluetooth, Wireless G/N capable
Please be aware: A system configured with these high end options will run Windows XP/Vista/Office 2007 and Adobe CS 3 comfortably. Other high end programs (Autocad, Solid Works) may require further hardware upgrades or customizations for a satisfactory user experience.

LCD – 15” widescreen
NIC – 10/100 mbps Ethernet
Optical Drive – DVD/CD-RW drive
Graphics – 256 MB dedicated memory & DirectX 10 capable
Ports – 4 USB 2.0, 2 Firewire, VGA, RJ-45 and Modem
Wireless – Wireless B/G (G/N preferred)
Firewire –  Two or more ports
Pointing Device – Touchpad (Optical Mouse preferred)

(not supported for users who have access to PCI data)
