During the Summer of 2005, the Connecticut Community College (CCC)
system implemented the next phase of Microsoft Active Directory.
This phase was the implementation of Microsoft Identity
Integration Server or MIIS. MIIS is a sophisticated software product
that stores and integrates identity information from multiple data
sources (Banner, Active Directory) to provide a unified view of all
users. Through this unified view of Banner and AD data, the process to
establish and terminate Network ID (NetID) accounts was automated.
With MIIS in place, the CCC system now has the facility to create NetID
accounts for each and every CCC student,
faculty & staff. This is a critical step in the development of the
underlying directory service infrastructure needed to provide students,
faculty & staff with access to all community
college services, either on-campus or via the Internet, via a single NetID.
The community college services that are accessible
under this NetID include Outlook Web Access Mail for Faculty & Staff,
Windows File Shares and network logon to PC workstations throughout the
CCC system and the following services via the myCommNet portal: Blackboard
Vista, Banner Self-Service (Students, Faculty, Finance), Library
Electronic Information Databases.
