The Connecticut Community College Nursing Program (CT-CCNP) is an innovative associate
degree program offered at six Connecticut Community Colleges. The common nursing
programming offers a four-semester curriculum designed to prepare registered nurses to function
in the professional role utilizing current standards of nursing practice.
Students
within the program have the same admission and policy standards, which allows for greater student
flexibility.
A graduate of the nursing program is awarded an Associate in Science
Degree in Nursing and is eligible to take the National Council Licensing
Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
The following six Connecticut Community Colleges offer the Nursing
Program:
Capital Community College- Hartford
Gateway Community College- North Haven
Naugatuck Valley Community College- Waterbury
Northwestern Connecticut Community College- Winsted
Norwalk Community College- Norwalk
Three Rivers Community College- Norwich
All of the programs are individually approved by the
Connecticut State Board of Examiners for Nursing with the consent of the
Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Health. Five of the
programs (Capital, Gateway, Naugatuck Valley, Norwalk & Three Rivers)
are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting
Commission, Inc. located at 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta,
GA 30326; P: 404-975-5000, www.nlnac.org.
The newest nursing program, Northwestern Connecticut Community College,
has been granted Candidacy Status by the National League for Nursing
Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and is
currently in the process of seeking full accreditation.

The Nursing Program is a four-semester program which, upon successful completion, awards an
Associate in Science Degree. Sixty-eight credits are required for graduation. The general education courses
and nursing courses are sequenced to build from fundamental skills to complex critical thinking skills. The
program is challenging in nature, demanding mathematics, science, social science and English skills as building
blocks to all that encompasses nursing practice. Click
here to look at the program of study in more detail.
All CT-CCNP students are required to complete a three-credit
humanities or fine arts elective. Courses that meet
this requirement can be found
here.
All students must be
capable of performing the skills of a nursing student. These technical
standards reflect reasonable expectations of the RN student for the
performance of common functions of the registered nurse. In adopting
these standards the Connecticut Community College Nursing Program is
mindful of the client's right to safe and quality health care provided
both by our students and graduates. The RN student must be able to
apply the knowledge and skills necessary to function in a broad variety
of clinical situations. Click

Technical Standards required of our nursing students.

The CT-CCNP requires students to complete the online
nursing program application. The application period for the nursing program is
November 1- February 1 of each year.
All CT-CCNP applicants must complete the online nursing program application and
submit all related documentation
to the Admissions Office at the College of First Choice by the
February 1st deadline. The "College of First Choice" is the college that
the applicant would most like to attend.
Applicants may select a 2nd choice college at the initial
time of application which will eliminate the necessity to apply to more
than one college. An
applicant should only list the college(s) to which s/he would be willing to commute.
Late applications and transcripts will not be accepted. Submission of a common
nursing application to more than one of the six nursing colleges could affect the application status of a student.
