Enrollment By Credit Program
Performance Indicator
The number and percentage of students enrolled in credit programs.
Performance Improvement Goal
For the System, the performance goal is to meet or exceed an enrollment target of 42,000 students each fall semester.
Data Analysis

In Fall 2007, as a system, 45.7% of all Community College students were enrolled in occupational programs. Liberal Arts and Sciences and General Studies programs accounted for an additional 34.8% of all Community College students, and the remaining 19.5% of the students were not enrolled in a specific degree or certificate program.

In Fall 2007, 48,434 credit students enrolled in Connecticut Community Colleges. This represents an increase of 7.3% since Fall 2003;the performance goal has been met or exceeded. The Community Colleges are serving 27,505 Full-time Equivalent Students, which is the largest number in the system’s history. This represents an increase of 13.9% since Fall 2003.

In terms of attendance categories, 62.5% of all community college students are attending part-time, and 37.5% are attending full-time. Full-time attendance has increased by 25.6% since Fall 2003, while part-time attendance has decreased by 1.4%. From 1998 to 2001, part-time students generated more FTE than full-time students. This trend changed in 2002 and as of this fall, full-time students account for 57.3% of the total FTE generated.

As full-time enrollment increases these are generally a younger, more “traditional age” college student;75.1% of them are under the age of 22. Overall 44.6% of our students are under the age of 22, a 23.6% increase since 2003 and the largest segment of our student body.

Enrollment in programs that support state-wide workforce shortage areas is monitored closely. Over the past five years, enrollment in nursing programs has increased by 38.9% and enrollment in Science/Engineering/Technology programs has decreased by 5.0%.
