Alternative Energy Systems Technology Certificate
Available at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury

With a foundation of courses in manufacturing and engineering technology,
students will be exposed to cutting-edge knowledge and technology for alternative energy systems,
including energy-efficient building construction, fuel cells, solar thermal and photovoltaic
technologies, geothermal systems, and alternative-fuel vehicles. Topics include the evolution
of energy production, energy efficiency, electrical energy production and distribution,
and environmental and economic impacts.
The Alternative Energy Systems Technology Certificate begins to prepare
students to take nationally recognized energy certification exams such
as the Residential Energy Services Network’s Home Energy Rating System (HERS)
Certification and the Building Performance Institute’s Building Analyst
Certification. Career paths include fuel cell technicians, energy auditors,
building analysts, environmental engineering technicians, and
alternative-energy systems operators or technicians.
